Can you share more about your journey from education to career coaching?
My journey began in Vermont, where I started as an early childhood educator working with 5th-8th grade students focused on math intervention. I transitioned to higher education and obtained a Master's in Higher Education Administration from Boston University. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Director of Career Education at Boston University and will begin pursuing a Ph.D. in education at Boston College. Not only am I an educator and career coach, I’m a first-generation college student, TEDx speaker, LinkedIn Top Voice, and consultant. My passion lies in empowering Gen Z individuals to thrive in their professional endeavors and fostering inclusive environments.
What misconceptions have you encountered regarding Gen Z in the workplace?
A prevalent misconception is that Gen Z lacks work ethic, which couldn't be further from the truth. Through my work, I've witnessed their determination, resilience, and hunger for growth. Gen Z has weathered economic challenges and uncertainties with grace, all while consistently seeking mentorship and opportunities for development. By providing support and guidance tailored to their needs, we can harness their potential and cultivate a thriving, intergenerational workforce.
How do you prioritize balance in your multifaceted life?
Balance is paramount, especially when working with Gen Z individuals who are navigating a rapidly changing world. I prioritize self-care and wellbeing by establishing routines that include movement and setting boundaries to manage my workload effectively. Carving out time for creativity, immersing myself in nature, and indulging in outdoor adventures rejuvenate my spirit and enable me to better support the next generation.
Could you tell us about your favorite workwear piece and how you style it?
My go-to workwear item is a pair of versatile wide-leg trousers. I love pairing them with Nike Air Force 1s or Air Maxes for a blend of comfort and style. Layered with a cozy sweater, it's a chic ensemble that resonates with Gen Z's desire for self-expression and versatility in their professional attire.
In a world where guiding the next generation is paramount, Ang stands as a beacon of empowerment and guidance for Gen Z professionals. Her journey from education to career coaching exemplifies resilience and dedication to fostering inclusive workspaces tailored to their needs.
