Who We Serve
The Alex House Project (AHP) is a 501c3 nonprofit, peer-led social service and leadership development organization. They support pregnant and parenting mothers living in NYC.
Their target populations are pregnant and parenting young women of color who are directly affected by poverty and racism, including homeless youth, new immigrant youth, and parenting youth in foster care.
Their base in Red Hook, Brooklyn is home to New York’s largest NYCHA development, housing over 11,000 people in 2,878 apartments. 90% of the tenants are people of color, as are most AHP participants.
AHP envisions a world in which low-income families benefit from comprehensive support. And where young mothers, in particular, can successfully transition into parenthood, with access to parenting training, higher education, and employment.
